It’s Never Too Late To Create A New Tradition For The Holiday
The holidays are coming up again. It seems hard to believe that another year has come and gone. Truthfully, we can’t help but feel glad that 2020 and 2021 are close to being behind us.
Typically, during this time of year, we are beginning to partake in the traditions we hold close to our hearts. However, due to the pandemic, many of these plans have either been stopped completely or altered. The holiday’s are already a hard time for many people. We are remembering the lives of those who are no longer with us. Missing people who have moved too far away for us to spend time with.
Traditions Are What Tie Us To The Past
Traditions are typically what hold us together during this season. Whether that is through family gatherings, time with friends, or watching the same movies that we have every year. But, because of how much has changed over the last few years, it feels as if we are missing out on them. Whether this is a temporary thing for your or not, it can feel very disheartening to not have them to look forward to.
Traditions are there for a reason, but, you don’t have to feel as if all hope is lost. At some point, the traditions that you revere now were once a new idea. So, instead of mourning the temporary or permanent loss of some traditions, why not start some new ones? You don’t have to go all out or plan ones that completely replace the old. It’s never too late to begin a new tradition. If you are looking for some new traditions, keep reading to get some ideas!
New Traditions To Try This Year
It’s been an odd few years, to say the least. Whatever the reason is that you can’t continue a certain tradition this year, you don’t have to feel as if the holiday’s are ruined. You can even start small traditions that you do each year just for you – think of it as a date night, but with yourself.
Facetime And Holiday Chill? Sign Us Up!
It’s not the same as being in the same room as your group of friends or family. But, if social distancing (or just miles distance) is keeping you apart from loved ones this year, utilize technology to your advance! Pick a night where you and whomever you want get on Facetime or your favorite video chatting app and watch a movie together. Turning it on at the same time, you can chat, snack, and laugh (or cry) over the movie. You can still spend time together, but it will be a little different. Think about how awful it would be having to social distance before technology, even telephones, was a thing!
Have A Small Intimate Gathering
Big parties and gatherings are always so much fun. The vibes in the room are great and you can feel the love and respect everyone has for each other. This year, it may look a little different. If you are craving the connections, but really don’t want to be around a lot of people, start your own small gathering. Invite three to six people or however many you choose and have a small Christmas party this year. Or even do a ‘Friendsgiving’ with your friends.
Start A New Tradition For You
The holidays are always a great time to catch up with those closest in our lives. But, it is also a great time to reflect and give ourselves some TLC. It doesn’t have to be on the same day each year, but why not give yourself one full weekend day where you pamper and do stuff exclusively for you? It can be an at-home spa day where you treat yourself to a long bubble bath, facials, and painting your nails. Or, you can make a pact to watch a favorite movie of yours, pop some popcorn or binge on some other snacks (just don’t go too crazy with it!)
Whatever you choose, do something that you truly enjoy. It will help you feel renewed for the holiday season and will give you the time to just relax.
